Starting From 0 Followers

One of the questions I often see about Affiliate Marketing and other Online Side Hustles is about whether or not you need a large following to start. 

The truth of the matter is that of course it would help to have an existing following of any size, but the fact is that unless one is famous another way, we all start with 0 followers. This blog started with 0 followers, and here you are. If others can start with 0 and build an audience, so can you. 

Don?t believe me? 

How many followers would you expect a small fish tank of a 9 year old to have? Friends and family maybe? At its peak, my daughter?s fish tank had over 5000 followers. It isn?t a fancy setup, and we don?t have expensive rare fish in it, just some cheap fish that she loves. I grew the account by taking videos of them and adding inspirational quotes on TikTok just to see if I could build an audience for them. 

It takes time and consistency. I found that if I posted regularly, but not too much at a time that I would get better views and engagement. 

Still don?t believe me? 

My father introduced me to a couple of YouTube channels that he really likes to watch. I mean he knows their stories. What do they do? One moves dirt with heavy equipment. One drives a big rig, and another farms. Some talk a lot and others hardly speak and yet they all have large followings. Take a look at any creator's account that you follow and go back to their first posts. They won't have millions of views, they might have 10-100. They all also started at 0 just like us. If they can do it, why can?t we?

How did they do it? 

They took action and started somewhere. I?m sure they struggled to get their following and doubted if it would ever happen. I have no doubt that they failed many times, but they failed forward. Each failure taught them something and moved them closer to the goal. 

Stop waiting and take action! Whether you want to do Affiliate Marketing or write a book, stop dreaming and start making it happen. Don?t worry about the audience count because with time and effort you?ll gain the audience.
