The U.S. Debt Ceiling is a popular topic of conversation in politics, financial circles, and crypto spaces right now. Most experts seem to agree that a default would have some serious consequences for both the country as a whole and people like us. Most also seem to agree that we, as a country, need to do something about our ever increasing debt.

The truth is that there isn?t much that you or I can do about the situation. We can, and should, let our elected representatives know how we feel, regardless of which side of the aisle you support. That?s the only way they can know what We The People want.

Our personal debt ceiling on the other hand, is something we have nearly total control over. We can decide how much is too much, and we can decide to rid ourselves of it.

I want you to ask yourself, ?What would being debt free mean to me??

I want you to imagine yourself debt free. Maybe it would mean that you can simply better provide for your family. Maybe it would mean that you could travel, or provide a means to retire someday. Maybe you?d save for a house.

Next I want you to ask yourself. What is stopping you from being debt free? Maybe your income doesn?t meet your needs, and that?s certainly a possibility. We?ll discuss improving income in future conversations. The thing is though. Most of us live nearly paycheck to paycheck regardless of how much we make. My grandfather always stressed, ?It?s not what you make that matters, it?s what you keep.?

One of the things that held us up is more of a psychological issue. We?d become so deep in debt that it felt like we?d never be able to claw our way out, so why bother?  I didn?t want to deal with it. I didn?t want to answer the phone. I didn?t want to check the mail. It was a dark time.

There came a moment though, when I realized that our debt was going to cost me my 9-5 job if we didn?t deal with it. It was the motivational kick in the pants I needed, and my wife and I made a plan. Then we executed that plan over and over until we?d busted through our debt problem.

You can do it too! I want you to hear me. You can bust your debt problem. You can stop the creditors from calling. You can take control.
